The Central Ski Report

Here's an update:  the papers arrived in Norway today 11-20-12

Hello Cindi Carlson, The newspapers arrived today. I have just opened the envelope but I haven`t hade the time to read them yet. But I am looking forward to do so when I can find the time.

Thank you again for this gift. I will send you a formal thank you-letter in a couple of days.
All the best form
Per Øyvind Østensen, Curator

Norwegian Mining Museum
Po box 18

NORWAY

I had a stack of these newspapers that were my grandfathers from the 30's and 40's. I don't have an attachment to these but i knew i couldn't just throw them away, i knew i had to find them homes. I have a few i will send to the ski hall of fame and the rest are going in the mail to 8 different places.
When you are researching old newspapers, its the the shape the newspaper is in, it is the article on the front page. I read the articles, looked up people online and sent them to the person/ski hill with the best story.
I am sending some to a museum in Norway. One of the articles was about a Birger Rudd, he went onto to win an olympic medal and open up a skiing museum in his home town. I contacted the curator at that museum and they wanted the newspapers...

pallet project

IT'S FINISHED ! this is all i can show you because it's part of a surprise. I am thankful for my neighbor who helped by cutting the boards and letting me use his garage. I think "she" will like it

gotta love free pallets for projects but it sucks to get the boards off. easiest way is to zip the sides off and then you just have to struggle to get the middle nails out
i'll update once i get this built

hey

11111 pageviews this is what i hit today ! pretty exciting, thank you to my (3) loyal readers...

Obama

Let me get this out right away, this is my blog, my views....

I voted for Obama and he won, well obviously not just because i voted for him but i always feel pride when i have practiced my civic duty. I still remember how proud my mother was when i was 18 and she took me to vote for the first time, i am pretty sure she even took a picture at that voting station in Little Lake. One of the things i like about Obama is the way he loves his wife and kids AND publicly displays it (my husband loves me like that btw not in public because he is also painfully shy). I woke up this morning nervous to open my laptop to see what the outcome was. I will say i don't think i am democratic or republican, i just vote for who I think will do the best job or sometimes even the lesser of the two evils. The two points that matter to me are "gay marriage" and "religious beliefs". I have friends and family members that are gay and deserve the right to get married if they choose to. How many times was Elizabeth Taylor married? yeah, 8 times

Interview 5-14-12 on "The View"...

President Barack Obama touched on his recent announcement of support for same-sex marriage, saying at a New York City fundraising event Monday that he believes marriage equality "strengthens families."
"I want everyone treated fairly in this country. We have never gone wrong when we've extended rights and responsibilities to everybody," he said, drawing big applause. "That doesn't weaken families, that strengthens families."

Barack Obama made history on May 9 when he became the first sitting US president to declare support for same-sex marriage. Mitt Romney has said he is against it. But gay issues extend beyond same-sex marriage.

In contrast, Mr. Romney signed a National Organization for Marriage pledge a year ago in favor of a federal constitutional amendment to define marriage solely as between one man and one woman. Further, the former Massachusetts governor does not support civil unions

We all are WELL AWARE that Mitt is a Mormom, i believe that was his main campaign ploy, religion. Like i have said many times before i don't get involved in the religous battle but i will say that the polygamy/child bride beliefs of some mormons disgusts me.

8-21-12, Washington National Cathedral’s magazine, Cathedral Age, asked President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney an identical set of questions about the presence of faith in their lives and the role of religion in America

Cathedral Age: How does faith play a role in your life?

President Obama: First and foremost, my Christian faith gives me a perspective and security that I don’t think I would have otherwise: That I am loved. That, at the end of the day, God is in control -- and my main responsibility is to love God with all of my heart, soul and mind, and to love my neighbor as myself. Now, I don’t always live up to that standard, but it is a standard I am always pursuing.

My faith is also a great source of comfort to me. I’ve said before that my faith has grown as president. This office tends to make a person pray more; and as President Lincoln once said, “I have been driven to my knees many times by the overwhelming conviction that I had no place else to go.” Don't quote Lincoln, i REALLY like HONEST Abe

Finally, I try to make sure that my faith informs how I live my life. As a husband, as a father, and as president, my faith helps me to keep my eyes on the prize and focus on what is good and truly important.

Governor Romney: Faith is integral to my life. I have served as a lay pastor in my church. I faithfully follow its precepts. I was taught in my home to honor God and love my neighbor. My father was committed to Martin Luther King, Jr.’s cause of equality, and I saw my parents provide compassionate care to others, in personal ways to people nearby and in leading national volunteer movements. My faith is grounded in the conviction that a consequence of our common humanity is our responsibility to one another -- to our fellow Americans foremost, but also to every child of God.
