today would have been 69 years for my grandparents, sadly my grandfather has passed but my gram is still a kicking at eastwood nursing home! Today i do not have time to bring her flowers so I asked Sheena if she could do this for me. I try to do this every year on my mother's birthday and their anniversary.

Well Sheena went to the nursing home with Alex and she said gram was in a good mood! But my grandma feels bad for me because i live with so many people. Gram kept trying to give Alex a kiss but he didn't want anything to do with that. All the employees just loved Alex too but he felt uncomfortable with all the attention!

anise candy

2 cups sugar

1 cup white syrup

1 cup water

powdered sugar

Boil together till hard crack stage (300). remove from heat and add 1 tsp. red food coloring (i didn't have red, i used green) and 2 tsp. anise oil. Pour into greased 11X 7 pan. cool and crack and coat with powdered sugar. (my gram made this every christmas).

on a side note, i thought of my girlfriend Heidi while i was making this. She CANNOT stand the smell of anise/black licorice for reasons i will not write about :)
