my dream closet

I have waited a long time for this walk in closet...it's pretty amazing :)

my shoe wheel, sigh
yes, it's kind of organized by color/style/season
shelf above the door, i've seen this on a lot of other blogs

my vanity with all my stuff. i only have to shower in the bathroom now :) my first attempt at a silhouettes, not bad for .50 cents (frame I got a vinnie's for .50 cents, paper/spray paint i had)
washi tape as a border for my kiddos growth chart
Aubri 11-14-01
This was a great project. My towel rack is made from a dowel and an old belt, I love it but I moved it. It's now hidden by the little dresser in this picture

Here's the breakdown...

  • Menards (for shelving brackets & dowels)
    • on Oct. 11 -  $34.28 (I had $54.23 in gift cards & rebates that i had been saving)
    • I will be getting $11.56 back in a rebate
  • Lowes (for curtains)
    • on Oct. 11 - $21.56 (I had a $25 gift card plus a 10% off discount)
      • Gary velvet insulated curtains, 3 panels, on clearance for $11 each. If i ever get the window removed i will certainly re-use these curtains somewhere else in the house. They were 10 inches to short because i had to mount the curtain rod at the top. I had extra black fabric that i just sewed across the bottom
  • Dresser/vanity = zero, i swapped dressers with Aubri
  • bench for vanity = zero, i had fabric in my stash to re-cover
  • Paint = zero, i had some white leftover and Tina gave me a little so we mixed them all together
  • shelves = zero, i used what i had from previous projects
  • shelf above door = zero, it was in sheena's room & steven didn't want it
  • flokati rug = zero, my christmas present from my kids
  • shoe wheel = zero, my birthday present from my kids
all my stuff organized in one room = PRICELESS

walk in closet

So since Sheena has moved out & in with her hubby, that left a vacant room. It is now the nerd cave, it was painted (light gray) and cleaned for him. I won't take a picture because it is still a "work in progress" to put it nicely.

That left the weird room off of the master bedroom for me to create my WALK IN CLOSET !!!!

First i took this desk that was no longer being used and cut 1/2 of it off. That's right, I took the circular saw out right in my kitchen and ripped that baby in 1/2. See how it fits perfect where the ceiling comes to an angle ? (this is under the stairs so that's why it's an odd shape) This was Tina's brilliant idea

I recovered the vanity chair that Aubri had in her room. I have had this gray/turquoise silky fabric in my stash for a long time. I LOVE it

Next I switched dressers with Aubri, I gave her my long dresser & took her tall one

This is what it looks like so far :) I am thrilled, my friend Tina is the handywoman and helped me pick out the stuff and hang it. Now I have to sell the 2 HUGE wardrobes I have on the opposite wall so I can finish this project. I am on a strict/tight budget to do this closet but I will update about that later. The back wall is covered by gray velvet curtains (i am in love with them). There is a gross window that needs to be removed but no time or $ to do that now so that's why there is a curtain wall.
Tina said I need more clothes...

Since I took the long dresser out of my bedroom it left a whole wall of empty space. Finally room to move, please god ignore the paneling and mauve carpeting :/

Bedroom

this picture of teal lake was hanging in my bedroom (of course I forgot to shoot a before picture)

this is the shelf that is in its place
Tulip painting Lina painted for me to give to my hubby for christmas, see the S+C in the lower left corner (another new plant from IKEA, my elephant toe plant, let's hope lola doesn't eat this one). Steven hung the painting a little high but I may have to just deal with it...

New bedroom curtain/panels...

We finally hung the curtains in our bedroom (they had been under the bed for 2+ years)...now I just have to paint the walls & rip up the UGLY carpet! By the way, the panels came from IKEA, do you know I LOVE IKEA!
